As a kid, I drank from this very stream. The water smelled strongly cow piss. In fact, during dry seasons, we had to dig through the sand to reach water level deep down. Brown water, filled with debris and things no human should survive on. Yet we drank it anyways.
I often say that I am immortal and people think I am just joking. I survived things that would otherwise kill the average human that I never speak of. So I low-key giggle when Nigerians in UK won’t drink water unless it is bottled water. In fact some even wonder why I drink water from just anywhere without fear. It’s because I have not forgotten my past, if all those things didn’t kill me, I haven’t seen anything yet here that will kill me. I am not stuck in the past, no, I do not have to wear my trauma on my forehead to show that I am from the mud. I carry the future in my mind because that’s where I am headed, but not unmindful of the struggles that shaped me. I am not ashamed of it, Never have been. In fact, that is my advantage. I am not Wreckless, I am just that strong and capable. Because I have seen it all, no one can make me shrink parts of me they don’t like just to make you them comfortable.
This perspective is to give you a glimpse into who I truly am, beyond the surface. It may make sense now when I said that I have blindly wandered beyond the horizon, where my kin and I once could only dare to dream. l am not arrogant, am just excited and a little curious to see how much further these tiny legs can carry me. I intend to enjoy every second of that journey. So if I am in your face too much, words alone cannot express how much I don’t give a damn. My immortality is my advantage. You think I am wreckless, almost as if I have nothing to lose. No, I refuse to be a puppet. l am a god!!!!
