DIVERGENT CORNER

Finding myself

Mr Consistency

Do the little things-consistently

My colleague once asked why I have a picture of Frank Lampard on my desk in the office. Unlike other people who prefer to frame their favourite moments/people or pets on their side, I chose to have this man framed, both at home and in the office instead.

My wife never cared to ask why I replaced her. The reason is simple. Frank Lampard is my all time favourite footballer. To me, he is the perfect symbol of CONSISTENCY. One of the Greatest midfielders of his generation.

He wasn’t the most technically gifted, but he had a little bit of everything. Strength, vision, stamina, pass, you name it. The only man to do double figure league goals/season for 10 consecutive years. 177 Goals, 102 assists from midfield. No unnecessary drama, no showboating, just sheer passion and discipline.

He is an inspiration in many different ways. A living embodiment of Chelsea spirit that drew my admiration. A frequent reminder to show up anyways, do the basics, the rest will take care of itself.

A living proof that I do not necessarily have to be gifted to make a difference, I just need to do the small things everyday with perfection. I would go days, sometimes even weeks being utterly useless, but when I look at him, I am reminded why I have him up there and not myself, and then I get my act together.

Football is not just a game.

Fun Fact: Turns out Lampard is a real life actual genius. He has an IQ of 150, that’s among 0.1% of population.
